Sky-scrappers climbing, mount Fuji viewing, shopping, dining, drinking, dancing; Shinjuku has everything you want...and quite a bit of what you don't want!
A collection of superlatives, Shinjuku is the embodiment of "urban at its best/worst": concrete, tarmac, steel and glass; you will never feel so alienated from nature as when in Shinjuku but will also never fail to be thrilled by its electric atmosphere....
With over a dozen train/subway lines reaching its 36 platforms, Shinjuku is the busiest station in Tokyo, and the world! 3.7 million people use it every day, so this is the best place the witness the “white gloved” staff pushing people inside the train cars….
If reaching the station is easy, on the other hand leaving it can be quite a challenge!! There are over 200 different exits around the Shinjuku station!! So a word of advice: do take the time to check the yellow signs, shown below, indicating which exit to use, or you could end up miles away from your destination....
It might not be as exciting as in a Miike Takashi movie, but still, Shinjuku has plenty to offer!!
The view from the "TOCHO" (government building) is impressive, night and day, when you can see Fuji (if you are lucky....). See here for access and opening hours:

Amid the hustle and bustle, you can find an oasis of greenery at Shinjuku Gyoen. The 200Yen entrance fee is well worth it: this is a park pretty to look at, and where you can actually lie in the grass...It is particularly popular during the "cherry blossom", when families and couples come to picnic.
