What started as a religious event, has now become an (very popular) alcohol-fuelled party, with loud music, drunk tourists and oh-so-funny penis-shaped lollies and souvenirs. Religion as business has never been so conspicuous...

You've seen it on TV, so you want to see it for yourself of course. I did too. Just don't expect too much....

Once you've had enough, you can walk to the nearby Kawasaki Daishi, with its more restrained atmosphere..
