With Akihabara, Nakano Broadway is a place that ought to be visited if you are looking for toys, cds, retro games etc.....Because all the tiny stores are under one roof (of an arcade), it makes an ideal destination when the weather is bad....
From Nakano JR station you need to take the North Exit, and as soon as you passed the gate, you will see the entrance of the arcade, opposite the station.
The first half of the arcade is lined with "regular" stores. Click on the picture to scroll them...
After a few minutes walk you will reach the entrance of this "Ali baba's cavern...".
This arcade is spread on five levels, with most stores on the 2nd and 3rd. If Akihabara is vertical, Nakano Broadway is horizontal, with one store after another (mostly really small), crammed with stuff from floor to ceiling.
Getting lost in those corridors is fun, but you take the risk of missing a great boutique, so planning your day will be more time-effective and will ensure you find what you are looking for. Nakano Broadway has its own website with comprehensive map here.
From old "Atomiswave" games to cosplay stores, through signed "mangaka" paintings and spooky dolls, you will find a huge amount of stuff here....
The Mandarake alone has about 6 differents stores in Nakano-Broadway, each with its speciality: mangas, video games, toys, super-expensive rare collectibles....
